Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association

An opportunity quilt is made each year (well, most years) by SCVQA members. The proceeds from this opportunity quilt are given to SCVQA.

We are looking for a volunteer / group of volunteers to lead our next opportunity quilt! Is it you?
Please email Nancy at president@scvqa.org to learn more.

2021 Opportunity Quilt

This year’s opportunity quilt, "Out of the Blue, Serenity!" was created by Joyce Tachner, Andrea Fleiner, Amanda Fleig, Joy and John Palmer, Deb McQueen, Donna Morrissey, Isabel Rodriguez, and Jane Wegner. A set of 72 6-inch blocks in shades of blue and white had been given to the guild by an unknown donor. Andrea found a quilt designed by Janine Alers in the May/June 2017 issue of QUILTmania that provided the inspiration for the center medallion and a set of rings around it.

The center medallion was created by Andrea. Not all of the donated blocks were used, and 22 blocks were added to the original set including the oversize corner blocks. The layout of the blocks was previewed in EQ8. The outer appliqué border was an improvisation done collectively using stash fabrics. Quilting was done by Joy Palmer on her longarm machine. The quilt is a generous queen size at 92” x 108”.
