TINY QUILT CHALLENGE

Red, White & Blue – 250 Tiny Quilts Challenge

Pull out your red, white and blue fabric scraps, trims and dodads and make some tiny quilts (4 x 6inches) for a Special Exhibit at the 2027 Road2California Show. This is postcard size. Keep it simple, make it original, and have fun using small scraps, machine or hand stitching and embellishments. The only requirement is the size (4 by 6inches) and the colors. A Tiny Quilt can be all red, all white, all blue—or red, white AND blue. (See the photos below.) A Tiny Quilt only takes about 1 hour to make, so make several. Our goal is 250! What a great display that will make for our organization!

Start with a 4x6inch piece of felt or batting— or Peltex or Timtex if you want to make it stiff. Add a background layer and your design embellishments (appliques, hand or machine embroidery, fabric paint, threads, yarns, buttons or beads). Finish edges with a satin or decorative stitch or use a narrow binding stitched to the front of the tiny quilt, turned to the back and fused in place. Or cut the front fabric large enough to fold to the back, overlapping the edges. Fuse on a backing and you have a Tiny Quilt. Be creative!

SIZE & COLORS are the only design requirements.

Here are the details:

THEME: USA 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Signing

SIZE: 4 by 6 inches, horizontal or vertical orientation

LAST-MINUTE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

TINY QUILT CHALLENGE

Here’s a last-minute quilt challenge for you.  Make a tiny quilt (4 by 6-inches) for a special display at the SCVQA September Quilt Show.  This is postcard size and would be like making a 50th Anniversary congratulatory card for the organization!  Keep it simple, make it original, and have fun using small scraps and embellishments.  The only requirement is the size—4 by 6-inches.  A tiny quilt only takes about 1 hour to make, so make several.  After the Show, you might want to trade your card(s) with quilty friends.

For inspiration, look for quilted postcards on Pinterest.  Don’t make a postcard, just a tiny piece of art! Start with a 4 by 6-inch piece of felt or batting—or Peltex or Timtex if you want to make it stiff.  Add a background-foundation layer and your design embellishments (appliques, hand or machine embroidery, fabric paint, threads, yarns, buttons or beads).  Edges can be finished with a satin or decorative stitch.  Or use a narrow binding that is stitched to the front of the tiny quilt, turned to the back and fused in place.  Fuse on a backing and you have a tiny quilt.  Be creative!
